The Temples of Thoth and Nekhbet at el-Kab



Newspaper heel is perhaps most famous for the graves of many wonderful, but there are a number of ruins of a temple in the region. The main temple complex at heel in a wall of adobe bricks huge cover at least part of the old city and contains many different structures and is difficult to understand without a plan floor. In fact, there seems to be little serious investigation of this compound. These structures which were built on one another. This was the sacred area in Nekhbet God "that Nekhen", which became the guardian goddess of Upper Egypt, while his counterpart Wadjit Lower Egypt.
It is likely that the mere structure of the temple was present at the newspaper heel Early Dynastic, Middle, and certainly the United rulers built here, but still present on the date of the New Kingdom. More than the main temple complex at heel Nekhbet but was devoted to this temple is assigned to an ancient temple of Thoth. Blocks used in many Middle and New Kingdom can be seen in two of the temples. These structures are typical in the plan of the temple of worship in the New Kingdom, with an open courtyard, including the hallway, and a hall of columns, porch, and three shelters contiguous. The surrounding structures are subsidiary, including a Roman temple.
Build the temple of Thoth began the dynasty in the 18th, under the guidance of King Amenhotep II. The edifice of Ramses II, is the front entrance of the Temple of Thoth. Far from the tower, patio and two windows, each with four columns that line the road processional. Courtyard gives way to a small room, and six columns, the columns that preceded pronaos, across a small room with only two of the columns is then pronaos shrines trio.
Temple, dedicated to Nekhebet, near the temple of Thoth in the northeast, was also completed stages, especially during the 29th and 30th Dynasty the last period Hakoris the reigns of Nectanebo I and II, although it was probably begun during the 25th Dynasty of Tahraqa with Psamtik I add that in the Dynasty 26th, even earlier still stands. In this temple of the walls of the courtyard were originally in line with the columns in the hall adjacent to the Temple of Thoth, but when this church was extended eastward, which is supposedly the plan non-symmetrical.
Access to the yard, which passes through a series of small towers. At home, there is actually on the scene with internal and external with the internal columns. Through the tower with a drainage system interesting, and this small, the original courtyard gives access to a hall of columns with two rows of four columns asymmetric to the west, and four rows of four columns to the east. This room was apparently built by Hakoris. To the east, and two small cameras and camera is very small. Located to the east of the temple Nekhbet small lake is sacred.
To the south of this part of the temple complex there birthhouse that contains the camera with six columns, and to the south is the arrangement of structures such as towers and stall Nectanebo I. This kiosk and function is the gateway through the structure of the enclosure wall yet. Located to the east of the main entrance is another pillar to open the "Gate of the Tribes" and to the south, and there are remnants of a small Roman temple. It is bounded by the wall of the box in the open air. S entry is known as the gateway Nectanebo I.
