Minor Temple and Other Ruins of the Nile Delta, Part I
Abu Sir
Such an area can not be confused with the field called the attack near the pyramid of Saqqara. Located about 48 kilometers (30 miles) west of Alexandria, and is the site of the former Taposiris Magna, which was an important city in the Ptolemaic period. Temple is called Mana Taposiris probably due to the same period. The temple was dedicated to Osiris. Only the outer wall, which is strange limestone, while most of the structures in the Delta during this period was of brick, and the towers are in the temple. There is evidence that the sacred animals were worshiped there. Archaeologists found the tomb of animals near the temple. The show traces of a Christian church that the temple was used as a base for the Church in subsequent centuries. Also in the same area are the remains of public baths built by the Emperor Justinian, and the seawall, a bridge and sidewalks. Near the beach in the region, and we can see the rest of the tower which was built by Ptolemy II. The tower was a replica of the Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria was destroyed.
Tell Atrib (Athribis)
This site is just northeast of the town of Haditha in Banha, in Damietta branch of the Nile River, about 48 miles north of Cairo. It is an old barracks site Hery, B, Athribis called by the Greeks. Today, he called Kom Sidi Youssef. Was the capital of this name (10th), and the city's history dating back to the Old Kingdom. There are a number of kings built here, as Amenhotep III that was the temple construction project north of the city. Is now entirely disappeared, but still a number of temples were located. Many of these date from the Greco-Roman period and the other back to the reign of King Amasis, the late period of Egypt. Unfortunately, on the ruins of a very damaged so as to allow for the completion of reconstruction. Most of the minor effects can be found here so far, 25 strains of the 30th, with any of them is by the family of 12th. There is also a wide range of Greek and Roman cemetery. Some 26th to 30th dynasties silver ingots and jewelry that were found at the site of Athribis who are now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Unfortunately, a large excavation work must be done in the region quickly, in the region is slowly sinking into a modern apartment building being built above it. It is between Poland and the Egyptian archaeological mission is to carry out this work.
Work is focused on the north-west quarter of Ptolemy, with the remainder of the workshops and a bath complex has been found. In a region stretching from the west and south-west and bathrooms, and consists of three distinct layers of Ptolemy can be distinguished. Most of the ceramic material found here has been produced by local workshops. Ships showing the ancient Egyptian or an imitation of Greek models, or a combination of both. This tradition is also visible in the mixed mud and the numbers in the layers of Ptolemy. Kilns unearthed several workshops for the production of pottery and stone sculpture limestone votive objects have been identified. Excavations half baths Ptolemy also continued.
Ausim (Letopolis)
Osim incident is only about 13 miles to the north-west of Cairo, and is the site of an Egyptian city of tents. The Greeks called the Letopolis. Was the capital of Lower Egypt the second name. Osim area is an ancient city, and, together with the principle of God Khenty - IRTY (Khenty - tents) mentioned in the text dating back to the Old Kingdom. If God was probably one of the temples in the city, we could not find anything about it, and remain scattered and fragmented was found bearing the names of Necho II, Psamtik II Hakoris Nectanebo I, from 26 to strains 30a.
And Behbeit stone
And Behbeit - migrated about 8 kilometers (5 miles) west of El-Mansoura. It is located on the Damietta branch of the Nile River near Samannud, which in ancient times was known as Sebennytos, and was the seat of the kings of the family 30. Behbeit stone in the temple was dedicated to Isis, including the kings of 30th dynasty devoted in particular. Egyptologists believe he was one of the most important temples of Isis in Egypt, and possibly a counterpart to the north of the Temple of Isis at Philae. In fact, some inscriptions in the Temple of Isis, and perhaps before the days of Philae. Inside the enclosure walls, some of the remnants of the Ptolemaic temple early period is still seen. However, the temple has collapsed, as soon as possible in the afternoon in the history of the ruling families in Egypt. Is almost the only, however, the structure seems to have been built almost entirely of granite. Is so good patterns decorating the walls, which also go beyond what is found in Ptolemaic temples in Upper Egypt, which in the classical mass of the temple was transferred to the Temple of Isis in Rome great.
Recently, the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities) decided to use computers to rebuild the Temple of Isis there. Plans call for the establishment of the basic design of the temple, then repeated in stone. Accompanied by exploration in the region should provide exciting new information on the latest exact dates and Ptolemy.
Says El-Daba
Located to the east of Tel Al-qirqafa, near the village of El Khata'na, about ten kilometers north of Faqus in the eastern Nile Delta, it is likely that the site was the capital of the Hyksos Aoares. However, even in the early 12 Dynasty Egyptian kings appear to give unrestricted access to the city of Tell El-Daba, which seems to have become something of a people to free trade. This may have led to a marked increase in the number of settlers out of Palestine and Syria. There is very little here, but it seems the site is being excavated by a team of Czech Republic at the moment. Other archaeologists in the region, and it seems to include the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Cairo University and the Institute of Egyptology at the University of Vienna. It has a complex history and new building activity Kingdom Horemheb and the Age of Ramesses including the great temple was probably dedicated to the god Seth.
It seems, teams from Austria achieved at the funeral with many graves dating back to the medium 2. These layers of tombs dating back to the end of the family 13 at the end of the Hyksos period. Three main types of tombs found, including tombs jumped built of brick in the wells and tombs in the hole is simple, the infant is buried in the large vessels of the Egyptians and foreigners. There are 32 burials in this relatively small area. It is interesting, and most of the graves have not changed.
Net weight and the main cemetery in the region is oriented SE with the burial chamber (measuring 2.65 x 1.65 m), and one dome built of mud brick. The roof collapsed shortly after the roof of the cemetery, and thus appears to be destroyed by tomb robbers. Fortunately, this conclusion is incorrect. Was found in the structure of the only superpower in the entrance area, along with a round-bottomed bowl and pitcher. Near the wall to the north-east of the servant girl and was buried in a little contracted position facing the tomb chamber. The body was placed in this position at the time of primary burial. Given the circumstances of today and was buried in that time there was a strong possibility that the girl was offered to sacrifice his master rights. This event could have been a rare, almost unheard of since the oldest of Egypt's history.
It appears that the tomb owner was a soldier. He was buried with his weapons, and a range of different types of ceramics. The bones of goats or sheep are placed in a dish next to his head are the remains of lean meat. Copper was wearing a belt with a dagger enclosed environment with five ribs on the left side. In his arms he held a sword is still in its sheath. The sword itself was a well-preserved copper, and the sheath, which consists of organic material, possibly leather, has not yet been examined, the handle of bone. The blade is cast with a shot from diving, is the point of manuscripts, and therefore unique. It is the oldest examples of this kind so far found in Egypt.
An overview of the funerary equipment in combination products with the Egyptians and foreigners, Egyptians and foreign customs confirms the stereotype of most of the graves belonging to this period in Tell El-Daba. Tomb accompanied by several tombs in part, and it seems to be in the middle of the group, and perhaps a reference to the social consequences.
In addition, the Austrian team recently discovered a number of horse burial in Tel Al-Daba.
