According to newspaper intrepid (Leontopolis)
About 10 kilometers (6.25 miles) southeast of the modern city of the dead Ghamar in Damietta branch of the Nile River and the hills are a number of what remains of the former Taremu (Leontopolis, or "City of Lions"). Ancient Egyptian name for the site means "land of fish." Coverage remains more than 30 hectares (+304260 square meters). And some Egyptologists believe that in ancient times, this was the home of the kings who ruled during the 23rd Dynasty of Egypt, despite the fact that most of the capital and the development of this time at Thebes. It is also the provincial capital during the Greek (Ptolemaic period (the period may have been the center of the Kingdom of strong Delta-third during the transitional period (about 1069 of over 664 BC). Was also the capital of the ancient Egyptian name a few atheist ten (province).

There was once in the temple of local god of the Lion, Mihos (and thus Leontopolis, "City of Lions") here, although in ruins, its location has been found in the eastern part of the site. However, it has not been fully investigated, and the date of this temple is unknown. And the goddess Bastet, who was considered the mother of Mihos, and may also have been worshiped in the region.
Note the excavation of C.C. Edgar in the region that produces treasures "from the Kama Queen." Sarcophagus was apparently imperturbable made a number of jewelry and other items, including a large chest of gold-plated and silver and inlaid with lapis lazuli amulet Scorpio man under the banner inlaid with gold and garnet. A series of bronze statues for Mihos Embedding (Assad) was also detected in the region.
It seems, and the ongoing excavations carried out in Tel intrepid newspaper of the University of California at Berkeley, under the guidance of a Carol. Redmount and Dr. Renee Friedman .. One goal of this group is that this document is relatively well-preserved ruins in order to improve our understanding of history, including the development and nature of urbanization in Egypt, especially in the Nile Delta region. It also hopes to obtain valuable information on the Third Intermediate Period of Egypt's history, a time which we know relatively little, but this approach seems to be the change in the Persian period.
Some of the results and discoveries in this group include:
• lack of discoveries have been made before the date of the Third Intermediate Period, when it is now believed that cities had been established (the latest of a Roman city built next to the oldest city).
• Among the 24 sites documented in the new century, only 9 survived, and due to the expansion of local agricultural land.
• The site is probably originated in the Nile branch MendesI old migrated eastward slowly over a period of time, with the development of scope for expansion in this migration.
• There is considerable evidence to suggest somewhere in the trade with Greece and the Levant.
• One of the remaining sites are located a mile intrepid Third Intermediate Period ceramics produced. Unfortunately, this site has been recently given to farmers for agricultural use.
• In the upper part of the ruins were discovered red granite torso of Ramses II and the mass of red granite with some titles.

• excavation of the test, a series of small items that have been discovered. These tests indicate that the date is still in the Romanian, Greek, Persian and Saite periods, and include elements of worship to domestic, industrial, archaeological and maybe. Objects that were detected numbers are dramatic, and most of them men, and a number of clay, glass, amulets, including the cast of the eye and Djt, stamped jar handles from outside Egypt, and some parts of the statue and many fragments of pottery.
• Site up to the ruins of what is beyond the level of groundwater. In the least of these layers are not fully identified, but it seems that the lowest level can be up to four or more meters below the water level in some places. Most of what remains of the oldest, of course, below the level of groundwater.
• According to the information provided to these rigs by the local population, the cache of statues found here have been smuggled out of Egypt in the 1970s.
Some excavations carried out recently showed that during the Saite, especially during the period of the Persian occupation of the site was very big and important. There are a number of different districts in the region have been identified, including the district of the national elite (Carnelos station), and non-national, district elite (Palace Station), industry (Iuput station). Within areas of the country, excavators found the remains of living, including roads and housing. Apparently, the latter is in the neighborhood of what was probably a Greek bronze casting time of installation.

There was apparently a temple located here dating back to the Middle Kingdom sometime between the reigns of Amenemhat I and Sesostris III. Not We identify the god or gods that were worshiped in the temple, but still a pillar of granite and the entrance to a small room known by Egyptologists.
